“When deliveries enter the warehouse, I check them over for damage and to see that everything looks as it should. This inspection is very important.”

Charles Walsarie has been working in logistics since 1979 and has been happily employed with Losán for more than 15 years already. “My job is to load and unload the vehicles and take care of the administrative side of the logistics process, together with my colleague”, says Charles. “We pick the orders and prepare them, load them and then we send the documents to Purchasing and Sales. We also keep the warehouse clean and tidy.”

Losán is synonymous with quality and Charles’s job is no different in that respect. “The products need to look good. When deliveries enter the warehouse, I check them over for damage and to see that everything looks as it should. This inspection is very important.”

Compared with his previous jobs, Charles thinks that working at Losán offers him more flexibility. Charles: “What I like about working at Losán is that we are given responsibility. We can organise our time ourselves. I really like this aspect of my job.” I also enjoy talking to the drivers. They come from different countries and they often stick around for a chat. I love working at Losán because of the freedom and the responsibility that I get.”

“The ambience at Losán is great, something that customers never fail to notice. You get to know your customers really well.”

After her studies in commercial economics, Inge’s first job was in the travel industry. This is her fifth year at Losán, where she works in the Sales Department. “My job is to enter orders in the system, confirm them and make sure that customers receive their orders on time. I do this with my colleagues Yvette and Celine”, says Inge. I liaise with the other departments for this. I also am in touch with our customers on a constant basis.

Every day is different at Losán. Inge: “In my job you have to be very flexible, switching between the office and production and between different customers, which is why my job is so varied and dynamic. I get a lot of e-mails from customers with questions about delivery times, orders and stock. Obviously I try to reply as soon as possible but I also advise our customers. When I started to work for Losán, I didn’t know that much about veneers. Since then I’ve become a lot more knowledgeable. But I still learn something new every day.

“The ambience at Losán is great, something that customers also never fail to notice. This, and the fact that we have such a good relation with our customers, means people are not afraid to ask questions. You get to know your customers really well”, says Inge. “Ultimately mutual trust plays a key role in sales and if you know your customer well, you can also give him or her good advice. Building a relationship and being able to sense each other’s needs is important. Besides this, we also like to go that extra mile for our customers.

I love receiving photos of completed projects. We sell a really nice product as you can tell when you see the pictures. What I also like is that there are plenty of opportunities to learn and grow at Losán. I previously took a French course and am currently taking a marketing course.

“It is vital that this logistics process is a seamless process. I’m always quite proud when we all get the job done together.”

Ger Laarman has many years of experience working with different types of wood because he was previously employed in a furniture factory. He now works as a buyer for Losán, a job that requires a lot of knowledge of and affinity with the product. “Gluing veneer to panel material is a tricky logistics process, which is why it’s vital that you know how it works and what it involves”, says Ger.

Ger and his colleagues Ger, Pieter and Rolf are in charge of purchasing the veneer and the panel material. The sheets are bought ready-made from Losán Romania and Losán Spain. “The various subsidiaries work well together”, says Ger. “Obviously we also source materials from other partners, outside the company. Because quality is so important at Losán, guaranteeing the quality of the veneer and the panel material is also an important aspect of our job.”

Ger tries to streamline his workdays as much as possible. The mornings are all about purchasing material, the afternoons are spent planning. “This ensures that I’ve finalised the planning for the next day’s production by the end of the day so the workers know exactly what to do”, Ger explains. “It is vital that the logistics process is a seamless process. I’m always quite proud when we all get the job done together.”

Ger doesn’t think that you can compare working for Losán to working for other companies. “The ambience is always great and we’re always happy to help each other. My colleagues always come to me with their questions because I have a lot of experience and knowledge about veneer and panel material. Helping others is fun. My door is always open!” “Doing a meaningful job is important to me. But there also needs to be a balance between challenging jobs and other more routine jobs”, says Ger. “Ultimately we make a really nice product together. My role also involves bridging the gap between the office and production, which I find very valuable.”

“The customer is part of Losán and vice versa.”

Nazar has been putting his heart and soul into his job as a production leader at Losán for more than 17 years already. “It’s a great company to work for”, says Nazar. “I get a lot of freedom and responsibility and there are plenty of career opportunities within the company.”

As a production leader, Nazar oversees production and process quality in the factory. He also transposes the customer’s wishes into suitable solutions. He’s always interested in the question behind the question. “The main thing is that we supply quality”, says Nazar. “Obviously the price is also important, but ultimately quality always wins out. Our customers trust us and assume that the products that we supply are of good quality.”

Nazar says that every day is different at Losán. “It’s a small company and many of our employees have been working here for several years already. The ambience is great. People are always willing to lend a hand or work overtime, in the event of machine downtime or when we need to complete an order. Both the people in the office and the people in production: everyone feels involved and rolls up their sleeves.”

At Losán they want to surprise customers and offer them an experience. Nazar: “The customer is part of Losán and vice versa. We believe in open and honest communication with our customers. At the same time, we always strive to offer them a hassle-free experience.”

“My wife sometimes says: ‘Don’t get him started on Losán or he won’t stop talking'”, Nazar says with a laugh. “But she’s right. I love my job. I can’t remember ever not having wanted to go to work. Obviously we do call each other to account if things don’t go as they should but ultimately it’s not what you say, but how you say it that makes a difference. We treat each other with respect.”

“Our job is about brains, but even more so about the heart, which is quite satisfying!”

Michael Wera advises Losán’s customers every step of the way. He makes sure that the customer’s order is produced to his specifications in the factory. Negotiating contracts is also part of the job. “I’ve been working at Losán for 15 years”, Michael says. “I always start from the customer’s needs but I also look at how the customer intends to use the product. My job is to assist customers in this process. As you may have guessed, being a good listener is crucial.”

Michael has been interested in wood and veneers from a very early age. He inherited this passion from his parents. Michael: “When you work at Losán, you need to have an affinity with what we do. You need to understand the product, otherwise you can’t do a good job.”

Surprising customers is part and parcel of the Losán service. Employees are expected to always think one step further, beyond the customer’s specifications. “I once had a customer who was adamant about using a specific, very expensive, exotic type of wood’, says Michael. “The only thing is that it was not sustainable. I think that as a company we have a responsibility, for our planet and for our children, and this should also apply to our customers. That is why I suggested an equally good, ecological solution to the customer, who was very happy with my alternative!”

At Losán all the employees work towards the same goal, something you can sense the minute you set foot on the premises. Michael: “All the employees have a role to play in the process. Once everything comes together, we all get a lot of satisfaction from it. We all work together: from Production to the Purchasing and Sales Departments. While we each have our own duties, everyone relies on the others to do their job. Our job is about brains, as well as about the heart, which is quite satisfying!”
